Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers confirmed on Wednesday a major collaboration agreement between the kingdom and Kuwait, marking a significant step towards the planned execution of a railway link connecting the two countries.

The announcement was made during a Cabinet session led by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to Saudi News Agency (SPA).

The council had previously vested authority in the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, HE Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, or his appointed representative, to initiate discussions with their Kuwaiti counterparts on the draft agreement.

The new high-speed railway link is expected to span 111 kilometres from the southern border of Kuwait with Saudi Arabia (Nuwaiseeb point) to the urban area of Shaddadiyah and will be used by both passenger and freight trains.
