Minister: It is Necessary to Identify Key Areas of Belarus-Tajikistan Investment Cooperation
It is necessary to determine priority areas of investment cooperation between Belarus and Tajikistan, Belarus’ Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov said at the meeting of the working group on investment cooperation between the Economy Ministry of Belarus and the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management of Tajikistan, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.
Taking part in the meeting of the working group were representatives of respective ministries and departments, embassies, concerns, chambers of commerce and industry of Belarus and Tajikistan.
Aleksandr Chervyakov noted that the state and prospects for bilateral cooperation were discussed during the official visit of the president of Belarus to Tajikistan in autumn 2022. The heads of state emphasized the need for a more efficient and consistent economic cooperation.
“Agriculture, manufacturing and interregional contacts were named the priority avenues of cooperation. We have advanced from export-import operations to big projects. A factory to assemble Belarusian agricultural machinery Agrotechservice is a case in point. A company in Tajikistan has been making carpets in collaboration with the Vitebsk Carpets enterprise since last year. Mogilevliftmash elevators are produced at a company in Tajikistan. All this shows that our trade and economic cooperation has good dynamics. Yet, we are still far from what we can do. The next step is the promotion of the Belarus-Tajikistan investment partnership. I strongly believe that we have the necessary resources for this. The key goal of our working group is to give impetus to investments, to find common areas of interest and draw a list of specific projects to attract business,” he stressed.
During the first introductory meeting, the parties signed regulations on the working group and presented investment opportunities of the two countries.
The participants of the meeting discussed the most promising areas of investment cooperation. They include mining, engineering, IT, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and tourism.
An agreement was reached to identify the priority areas of investment cooperation, to draw a list of investment projects, including import-substituting ones, as well as to study the possibility of creating a Belarus-Tajikistan investment fund.
